Key highlights of this past year included an update on the 2022-26 Strategy and Business Plan, CRSB Consumer Research Highlights, Government of Canada update, a “2030 Goals in Action” presenting panel and a lively panel discussion on” “Recognizing and Demonstrating Sustainability in the Beef Supply Chain.”

Results of the CRSB 2022 Council elections were announced. Anne Wasko’s term as Chair of the CRSB has ended and we welcome new Chair, Ryan Beierbach. The CRSB would like to acknowledge all those who have dedicated time, effort, and expertise to guide all aspects of CRSB’s work. Please see our website for details on the 2022-23 Council.

Certified Sustainable Beef Framework

The Certified Sustainable Beef Framework continues to see significant growth, more than doubling the numbers of companies now sourcing beef from CRSB Certified Sustainable farms and ranches across Canada. Over 10 million lbs. of beef sourced from certified sustainable farms and ranches was sold this year, bringing the total since the program began in 2018 to 29 million lbs. 9 foodservice and retail companies are sourcing through the program in their beef or specific product lines. 19% of the Canadian cattle herd is now raised on Certified Sustainable farms and ranches.

“Looking back on my past 4 years as Chair of the Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef makes me proud of the work that our beef supply chain has accomplished in beef sustainability. It also reminds me we have lots to do yet. I am so proud of the leadership the CRSB demonstrates in bringing together people who work together in true collaboration. It is exciting to see our supply chain partners embracing our certification program, and their desire to show Canadians the dedication of our farmers and ranchers to sustainable practices.” Anne Wasko, Past Chair of the CRSB and rancher from SK.

“I have been involved with the CRSB from the start and I am proud that we are providing certified sustainable beef to consumers. In the next couple years, it will be crucial to grow the number of cattle that qualify for the certified sustainable program. One of the keys to this will be to get more cow calf producers certified. I look forward to working on this, the sustainability initiatives, and increasing recognition that the Canadian Beef industry is a leader in sustainability.”-Ryan Beierbach, Chair of the CRSB and rancher from SK.
