Revolving Land Conservation Program

Under this program, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) purchases land. DUC restore the property’s wetland and upland habitat, then place a conservation easement on the land title. That’s when the land becomes available for purchase to the agricultural community or the public. It’s time to get the land back to work, while safeguarding its valuable wetland functions and natural ecosystems.

This programs supports the beef industry by narrowing the competition for land to grass growers only.  It is our hope that by excluding land conversion options, acquiring acres will become more accessible to beef producers and will support the growth of the beef industry.


Goal #3: Enhance ecosystem services and biodiversity on lands managed by beef producers

Indicators Addressed:
  • Grasslands, tame pastures and native ecosystems are maintained or enhanced.

Owning grassland with a conservation easement is a very secure way of “maintaining” the stand.

Communication Tools:

DUC communications and marketing staff promote the program regularly to producers and industry in the three Prairie provinces and Ontario through media releases, earned media, print and radio advertising, postcard mail drops, social media, digital marketing, tradeshow/event attendance and by using internal communications tools such as, a national magazine, e-newsletter distribution to members and volunteers, and annual reporting.
